Plant care

Soil

Crape Myrtles thrive in well-drained soil with a neutral to slightly acidic pH. They tolerate poor soil conditions but perform best when enriched with organic matter.

Light

Prefers full sun, which promotes abundant blooms. Ensure at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily for optimal flowering.

Watering

Requires regular watering during its first growing season to establish roots. Once mature, it becomes drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during dry periods.

Care

Prune in late winter to shape the tree and remove any dead or weak branches. Avoid excessive pruning, known as "crape murder," which can harm the plant. Use a balanced fertilizer in early spring to encourage growth and flowering. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it may lead to fewer blooms.  Keep an eye out for aphids and powdery mildew, common issues that can be managed with appropriate treatments.
